When my female had elevated uric acid level (gout) she did remarkably well with the dandelion root juice and heavy dandelion greens in her diet.
Allopurinol is mainly given for elevated uric acid levels, gout crystalization in the tissue and joints....causes for elevated uric acid level besides chronic dehydration is heavy plant protein foods in diet and also foods high in purines....legumes (beans & peas) are a big culprit, also asparagus, spinach, cereal grains, breads etc....so you might want to limit these if at all. When my female was diagnosed I caged her to better control the humidity, and then I totally eliminated legumes and cereals (I used to give her Total cereal and breads more than I should have)........what I would do as far as the liver probs....which alot of times occur because of purines...is I would supplement your igs diet with milk thistle (silymarin) and triple probiotic supplements look for a probiotic with B. Longum (bifidobacterium longum)in particular which has remarkable effects on curing liver disease. No worry of overdosing either but I'd give it everyday for 2 months then give it a few times a week. Get both at a health food store. Probiotics are in refrigerated section. About $9 for 2 month supply. Get one that contains over 1 billion cells. Bottle must remain refrigerated and has a 2-3 year expiration date. Double check on the expiration date. Some health food stores don't turn over their products fast enough. It couldn't hurt!
