Spike ran away...please, please help!!

Please help spike ran away ....he got out of his outside cage..thought was completely secure but wasn't....he belongs to my son in law..he is besides himself , he left on friday so it is 4 days now the whole neighborhood has loooked everywhere...please any suggestions where to look or what to do we notified the police animal control, humane society and have posters out everywhere...will he know enough to come back home....please help
