ADVICE on getting Females FIXED

My friend has a healthy, hearty beautiful ig that seems to have reached sexual maturity. She has not carried any eggs thus far. They would possibly like to get her fixed, but want to know the pros and cons. They recently had an aquaintance whose female iguana never came out from being put under during such an operation (and they don't want to risk such a thing with their baby) I told them I knew getting her fixed would put less trauma on her body through the years because I heard fixed females lived longer. And I told them they should certainly research extensively the best and most experienced vet for the job. But I told them I would post this to see what all of you say (& what experiences you've had).
