Although, in theory, spaying is a good idea, I personally think that it shouldn't be performed unless the ig becomes egg-bound. I also agree with the opinion that it is better to have the procedure performed when she is gravid (even if she is not actually "bound").

Anaesthesia and surgery are (accorrding to Booger's vet) quite sizable question marks. You would hate for an otherwise healthy ig to not make it through the procedure. This is not a decision to be made lightly.

However, having said that, Booger has had 2 good doctors. She came through her spaying (when egg-bound) and made a full recovery, and is now recovering well from her recent surgery.

Additionally, after her spaying, Booger came home quite bruised and emaciated, due to the eggs stretching her so much and preventing her from eating. But this surgery was necessary or she could have died.

Please weigh all sides of the situation before you decide either way.

It is possible that Booger could have laid her eggs successfully on her own, but the vet's opinion was that she had been not eating for too long and something needed to be done.

If a decision to spay is made, at least you and your ig will be assured that egg-binding will never be a future problem.

I hope you can make a decision that you will be comfortable with.
