shedding/loss of appetite?

Louie has been shedding for several days now. It started out in little bits around his head and legs, but now the whole body is going. I've been soaking him daily and rubbing a littel. He seems to have lost his appetite. He doesn't jump for the bowl and eats only a few bites at a time. He had lost weight too. Since he has lost weight, I can see a lump on the edge of his ribcage closest to his tail. It doesn't move and the skin slides over it.
NOW...I need some advice, but don't tell me to take hi to the vet, because I already called and they have no experience at all. He said he would have to read up on igs before I brought him in. The lump seems to be of uniform texture, no soft spot, and no scar near it.If it gets bigger I'll take him to the vet, but it would be better if I can tell him what he MIGHT be looking for/at. He's a great vet, just no reptile experience.
