Iguanas can sense heat from below. In fact they can sense heat on any part of their body including feet, toes, and tail. The problem is many are put into a tank without any heat and a hot rock in excess of 110 degrees. It becomes a problem because a hot rock doesn't raise the ambient temperature in the tank. So you end up with a cold air temperature. The survival instinct is so strong that it "glues" the iguana to the hot rock.
