The easement is good for walking on all public roads. I personally have not heard of anybody being run over or anything while walking, so dare I say it safe too. Hwy 163/Juno is a good, well documented road for anything out west you may be looking for. Traffic tends to be fairly light on 163 in my opinion. Some people have had better luck on it than others, mine personally has been about average. 277/Loma when the bridge was out was a Godsend, no traffic and perfect habitat, now it is good for walking, but traffic makes anything from the car tough. Hwy 90/Langtry has better shoulders and visibility than 277, but I just like the animals on 277 and Juno better. Still have not collected a 277 animal personally, but that is not because they are rare. Hwy 189, we got bored and hunted it one year a couple of nights, saw a respectable quantity of snakes, but nothing more spectacular than a couple of Lepidus (1 DOR). I assume Alterna can be found there, I just have no judgment on how frequently.

Pick your spot and work the heck out of it, do not let boredom run you off. Be persistent, Be consistent. Hunt late and stay on one locality, do not leap frog. Frequently the one animal you see the whole trip is the one you were looking for. That is my 2 cents.

Do you know where the popular turn-around spots are for 163? I think most folks stay within 4 - 5 miles either side of Bakers Crossing / Devils River Bridge.
