:My honest opinion is that the need to be armed while walking the cuts is waaaaayyyyyy overrated. If you must carry a handgun, then the only way to do so without issue is to have a permit valid in the state of Texas for concealed carry. Outside of that I would not even have a handgun in my vehicle, not worth the risk if questions are asked. The thing to do if you feel the need to arm yourself is get a “Long Gun”. Find yourself an inexpensive rifle or shotgun. They can almost always be in your vehicle, I think the exceptions are places like schools, polling places, etc. You could probably even carry that with you as you walked, but I would not go that far myself. Doing so would guarantee a few discussions with border patrol that you do not need to have these days. I personally feel safe enough with a pump 12 gauge in the vehicle, and in many years of collecting I have never had to put my hands on it.
:Besides, if you are worried about drunks, they will most likely run over (accidentally not on purpose) you before you have a chance to fire a shot anyway.
:Short advice, no pistols unless you have a permit to carry it. And if you feel safer with a firearm, get a $200 pump shotgun for that piece of mind.
