Crotalid defense against kingsnakes is typically exhibited as "body bridging". The rattlesnake will raise a loop of itself into the air and contract the muscles in an effort to make itself more difficult to constrict.
This behaviour appears almost spastic in nature and can often be initiated in a captive animal by introducing the shed skin of a kingsnake into the rattlesnake's enclosure.
