treating soft shell

I would like any info on treating my eastern painted with a soft shell. I neglected to get him a uv light after bringing him in from the outdoor pond he lived in all summer.I have hime in his own tank now. I give him rep-cal calcium on his food every day. I purchased the zoo-med basking bulb. He has been with this treatment for 2 weeks now. The sides of his upper shell have been getting better but his under shell is still soft. I try not to handle him ofter because im not sure if he is in pain. Any suggestions would be great
