It can take weeks, months, or even years for a problem to show up. Pet stores give 1 to 7 day warranties, so that they won't lose money. Basically the animal is a liability, and they feel the animal buying public will be stupid enough to think that a few day warramty is sufficient. Money is priority number one. Tortoises can carry viruses such as herpes for years before symptoms surface. If you don't like the look of the store, I would suggest not buying the animal. Reptiles are masters of concealing health problems, a warranty short of two weeks is a total joke.
