what really controls growth? The internal organs. If the internal organs are not properly developed it should not grow. Think about when you have a sick tortoise. Notice the growth rings when it is sick and when it is not. Now a completely different can of worms is improper or unbalanced diet. This will be seen in the form of deformaties such as misshapen shell, soft shell, or some other malady. If the tortoise is perfect in shape and form there is no reason to suspect that there is something wrong internally regardless of time.
