It usually is..... however, as stated, for there to be visible exterior carapace deformity the animal *has* been subjected to very serious dietary mismanagement. After working with such animals for the best part of 20 years, and carrying out hundreds of long-term follow-ups (and autopsies) I am in no doubt whatsoever that any animal displaying such symptoms has a greatly reduced life expectancy. Simple as that.
