Please post as much as you can about these guys. We don't have hardly any connections with folks in Japan. Put up as many pics as you can and all your observations. I'll try to get a pic of my albino Japanese rat on this post.
Yes, I guess there are albinos, especially near Iwakuni, Jamaguchi Prefecture, according to Schulz ('96), but are also found in other parts of Japan. They do also eat lizards, probably mostly when they're young when they need smaller prey. I'd try pinky mice with the size you had. It looked like last year's youngster.
Good luck with these guys, and I can't wait to see if you post any more pics or info. I got my main interest in ratsnakes (Elaphe) when I was in the service too. I was stationed in Thailand for a couple years, but have also been to Vietnam, Phillipines, and Tokyo, Japan. Talk to ya later.
TC.
: Yeah, we're U.S. soldiers stationed over here. His kids said they saw a lot out there. His wife ended up letting it go because they didn't know how to take care of it and it didn't move most of the day yesterday. I can get a fecal done real cheap (like $2) from the vet on post here, so if I find one, I'll be sure to have it checked. I know they'll eat rats, but I don't know how many of them are around, do they also eat lizards, because there are lots of them here, mostly skinks that I've seen. Thanks.
: Oh yeah, the kids saw a yellowish snake that got away, too, could it be an albino?
