: Black rat snakes are pretty variable when it comes to coloration, and it is very hard to judge the color of one as a hatchling/yearling.

:The coloration can be from dark grey to an olive coloration to solid black. Mine even has some dark golden coloration to him!! That is why I like the black rats so well, is the coloration of these beauties and their personalities are usually pretty chill.

texas rat snake. is that really a black rat? we have blackrats that look something like that around here but we call them juvineles.lol. sorry, couldn't resist. seriously, they are solid black [white-chinned] here in the northeast by their 2nd year. nice looking snake though. do you know the locality?
