Snakes pass aspen.. they can pass pretty much anything, unless its a small snake, being fed on sand. I feed most of my snakes on their substrate, and have for years. Never have i had a problem with impaction, even in hatchling corns and my beauties when they were hatchlings. Even my retics, which i feed on aspen, and swallow probably a table spoons worth with each rabbit have NEVER had a problem. You'd be amazed. Only thing you really have to worry about is sand, or if its a small snake, that gulps down a whole huge mouthful of substrate which is unlikely to happen, and if your an attentive keeper, would have it out of its mouth before the animal swollowed it.

:First let me start by saying I agree with KJ, even if you don't agree with his comments, it can and does cause impaction so why risk losing one of your animals because of it? Just place a clean hide box in and offer the food in the box, no risk then. Just my thoughts.

:>>FACT: Snakes do ingest anything from sand, mud, grass, to rocks, in the wild, and yet... they are able to survive.

:I would be willing to bet not all of them survive to ripe old age. Also, I would assume that you would rather offer your captive bred snakes a better chance than a wild animal. Can't compare wild snakes to captive bred that argument doesn't work for this case.

:>>:So before you jump my case about the way I feed, you might want to jump on Mother Nature for having such items spread out all over her vast greatness that snakes or any other animal is likely to ingest.

:Uhh, Heck, I really can't even begin to comment on this remark. Oh wait, I can offer a comment, it didn't appear that he jumped on you, it looked as if he was offering advice to you. This is a forum, you know, the exchange of ideas and all that mess

:D
