First let me start by saying I agree with KJ, even if you don't agree with his comments, it can and does cause impaction so why risk losing one of your animals because of it? Just place a clean hide box in and offer the food in the box, no risk then. Just my thoughts.

I would be willing to bet not all of them survive to ripe old age. Also, I would assume that you would rather offer your captive bred snakes a better chance than a wild animal. Can't compare wild snakes to captive bred that argument doesn't work for this case.
