: Can someone explain the difference between line and inbreeding. Thanks
Here is how I heard it -
Inbreeding would be starting out with a pair of
snakes and breeding their offspring together for
generations and generations ...
Line breeding would be starting out with an animal
that exhibited a trait you like, say nice coloration,
and breeding it to an animal that possessed another
trait you liked, say exceptional size but still
decent coloration. While you might still do some
inbreeding in your project to produce the ultimate
awesome colored exceptionally sized snake you would
from time to time introduce new blood. You would
pick the new blood carefully so as to add the desired
additional valued trait to your line without moving too far
back on the existing valued trait.
This is just they way someone explained it to me
and there may be more widely excepted definitions.
