Wow,Rick, I don't even know exactly where to start. While you certainly made some interesting points,ie;in reference to isolated island populations of distinct species,and,subspecies of reptiles,your assertion that inbreeding depression is not a real problem with reptiles,could not be further from the truth,while my initial post was only aimed at clearing up a percieved misconception in regards to definition,the "blanket" statements you made in your reply,are so completely erroneous,that,I wonder just where you arrived at such an opinion!? although I certainly don't claim to be an expert,nor,do I have any formal training,my obsession with animals,has led to some extensive reading,and,rather than trying to offer alot of quotes from qualified sources,I recommend that anyone reading this,that share Rick's views,to start with,"The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas"by Ross & Marzec,in particular,"chapter 6: Genetics of Boid Reproduction". though we've learned alot in the nine years,since it's publication,the basics,are still quite rock solid. R.....
