Hi Rick, I think you were right on the money,in your previous post,using albinos as an example. What better example of immediate,and, intense linebreeding,and,backbreeding? All those first generation babies(from initial amel.to normal breeding),must be line bred,and,or,bred back to the amel. parent,to be proven het. multiply this by one thousand,as fewer breeders are interested in outcrossing initially,for obvious marketing,and,space constraint reasons,and,I think most of the "evidence"to support the occurance of negative effects,or signs of "inbreeding depression",are probably sitting in freezers across the country,quickly explained away as "husbandry errors". More often than not,the "runt" IS saved,and,bred back into the project,especially if it exhibits some new pattern,or,color trait. If "inbreeding depression" can be proven in fruit flies,then my assertion is,it can certainly crop up in reptiles. I'm sure you must have made an effort,at some point,to procure animals you believed to be "unrelated",Why?
