and a bit away from genetics for a minute. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, I think most have seen examples of ruby-eye cal kings and ruby-eye florida kings..yes? Well, with that thought of color in your head(both adult and juvenile)doesnt the "typical HYPO" honduran, pueblan, pyro and durango color remind you of that?? That said, do you consider them "albinos" or amelanistics? To go a bit further, assume you were to color in a milksnake ruby-eye albino...what would it look like? Would it look similar to any of these morphs in question?? So I think most would admit within these parameters that yes, these hypos could be albinos. So how did it happen??
Again, without getting complicated lets say a normal color cell is a bright light bulb-very white. Normally covered with a dark piece of paper(melanin)it remains black. Take that paper away and you get the white(typical albino). How do you get a ruby-eye albino?? Maybe a gene acts like a chromatic filter and its colored say--lavender. This would account for the REMOVAL of melanin. And a very simple test for this would be the following... in ANY of these "hypo" morphs is ANY black(melanin) EVER present?
Now I have asked many people around the hobby for quite a while whether anyone has ever produced a red-eye albino X ruby-eye albino(cal king, black rat, florida king) and I have yet to see an animal that anyone could claim as double homozygous. If one exists(it should you would think), that animal could be compared to the "hybinos" to compare contrast. And I just thought of another test.....If these are albinos then they would have the same colored skin UNDERNEATH the scales. If they are just hypomelanistic only the black scales should have a different skin tone. Hey, thats it guys!! All we have to do now is convince Terry to skin a couple snakes, lol,Jeff
