: : hi guys! just a quick question for you all, ive just finished an 8 week cooling period on my melanurus, ive placed them together and they immediately tried to get as far away as possible from each other. last year i didnt cool them as much and they mated immediately but produced nothing. this year i cool them more and they arent interested, they are just coiled up at opposite ends of the vivarium. any ideas what to do now?
peter-- drymarchon breed while they cool, in fact, cooler temps trigger breeding urge. i introduce mates in late october and separate them when they start to get active again, usually early feb. my black tails seem most comfortable cooling in the mid to upper sixties. put them together when it gets cold. they'll find a way to warm up!
