: dan thanks again, unfortunately i have to heat every one of my tanks because i live in a particularly cold part of England and they are all in a snakeroom that needs more insulation, also i was always led to believe that drymarchon would eat other snakes if given the opportunity hence why i keep them seperate all year unless i'm trying to mate them. last year when they bred the male inflicted some serious looking gashes to the females neck (there was a lot of blood but theres no scarring left now)so obviously i'm rather anxious about leaving them together too long for fear of serious injury. any ideas?
pete-- sorry, my last post got cut off. i never had any problems w/ them attacking each other. they are well fed and can get well away from each other if they want to. but they den up together in the same hide box most of the time. i do have trouble w/ 2 males in particular during breeding season though. just what you described. minor neck wounds. i've have to separate them in the fall. gonna get rid of the one who always loses. the bigger one actually! i think due to the space they have, they are calmer. they can get completely away from each other if they want. calm that is until mid oct. or so. then all hell breaks loose. it's like somebody threw a switch. it's now almost jan. very quiet in there.put your animals together in the fall when it first starts to get chilly. that's the trick! definitely cool them together for as long as you can. you will get the desired results. it's not as warm as you think in central america in the winter months, esp. where cribos are lurking, in animal burrows, etc. you say you live in a cold part of england, where's the warm part? sorry, couldn't resist. dan. email me if you like. dannio04@webtv.net
