I first thought about getting Western hogs in 99. In 2000 I got a nice pair of Bairds rats. It wasn't until fall of 2001 after acquiring some awesome bulls that I finally got my hoggies. The female grew, and although she only ate occasionally, she behaved as I expected. Because of my experience with my other snakes I figured that she was feeding slowly due to the winter. The male, on the other hand, would not eat and showed no signs of growth. I was certain he was doomed. But, this spring he shed and turned into a little piggy! He still doesn't eat like the female and while she is eating fuzzies he is only eating pinkies, but he sometimes takes two at a feeding and I now realize that this is just the nature of this species. As long as you don't let this freak you out you won't have a problem. And I have to say that when it comes to attitude, these guys can compete with the much larger bulls any day!
