I have had probably a dozen or so Western/Mexican Hogs over the last 15 years and most of them have be WC as adults or juvs.
My experience is that once you get them on mice (which can take a couple of scentings sometimes) they eat very readily. I have 4 hogs right now (1.1 Plains, 1.1 Mexican) and all four of mine were wild collected by me. They all eat like pigs. My plains female is such an aggressive feeder that I have to be careful opening the cage as she constantly comes lunging out with her mouth open, hoping I have a mouse.
I actually haven't ever had much of a problem with them going off food in the winter, but then again, I usually brumate them.
PAL - you need to relax a little. A snake refusing to eat a meal doesn't count as "stopping eating". If a snake refuses several food offerings over a month, then I begin to look for a problem!
For comparison, I used to breed Rough-scaled Sand Boas and my adult males would frequently only eat 5-6 times per year. In fact, I rarely offered food more than once a month to the males as it was almost always ignored. They survived and bred and never had any problems. I didn't fret. If they got hungry enough, they ate.
