feeding questions

my little tegu tbhat i got on tuesday has not eaten since thursday or wednesday. is this bad? should i be concerned? and after i put in the cypress mulch i have seen less of him. will he come out and bask and eat on his own? or should i be worried about this? and how much should he be eating? so far since i have had him he has eaten about 6 crickets and a spoon full of montitor diet. also is it a bad thing to have crickets in his cage at all times? sorry for all of the questions.
