Hmmm....let's see. 5 different owners calling this week wanting to be rid of their igs (that's about the average calls per week)....one of our volunteers already has taken in 18 igs....most of us can't take anymore and we sure would like some more foster parents/adopters....how about the person calling from the D.C. area saying if you don't drive up here NOW (2 hours one way) and pick up these 2 iguanas up, I'm putting them to sleep! How about the ig that the overwhelmed volunteer has taken in with such severe MBD that her poor little face is so deformed, she has difficulty eating soft foods...Hmmm? Its ok. Breeders/wholesalers keep producing igs....we'll somehow find a place for them when the original owners feels its time to discard them. Well, heck! They only paid $4 - $20 for it, so no big deal. Its ok, we'll deal with it. I invite each and everyone one of you to donate your time and volunteer with a rescue group. Come see what we see. You all realize that we actually go to the owners home and pick these animals up? We see the conditions of where the iguanas lived. Do any of you ralize how hard it is to walk into someone's house and not comment on how they kept their iguana? I'll guarentee that you will come to see this whole issue in a different light. As HD said, until the time comes when you can't find igs readily available and the price of them goes up (impulse buying goes down) and I would encourage responsible breeding like Dino has described. But until then, there is no need. In fact Dino, what you have descibed, I would go so far as to refer prospective buyers to you, but currently, I could not.
