Hi all,
I do not have an Iguana. Presently space does not allow me to get one. Some day I will have the room for one of these wonderful creatures.
I was at an outdoor fleamarket yesterday and a "cool" teen had a young iggy. pearched on her shoulder as she walked around. I guess she thought that it was really cool and she seemed to enjoy the attention.
Myself I was outraged!!!! It was quite warm and very sunny. it would take a good few hours to walk around the fleamarket and here was this poor lizard! I guess as an owner of other herps I do not find it acceptable in any way. Not only the heat but the stress. I do not know a whole lot about the iguanas but would this not be a real bad thing to do? When asked by a passer-by if it would get a sunburn the girl replied "I don't think so?" with a stupid look on her face!
Are these lizards that easy going, that it wouldn't get stressed being around crowds of people(many of which petted it or tried to give it a snack)? Would the heat have bugged it? I assumed so but can they deal with direct sun(sitting on a black t-shirt) for hours? I can not see how this animal was not stressed. It was quite small...like the little ones that are new at the petstore. It appeared quite tame. I guess I am asking you(the people that know about thes things)if I have reason to be so upset? I would never walk around with my cornsnakes pearched around my neck or a frog in my pocket what makes this girl think.....I will stop now, I could rambel on about this for a while....
Thanks all for letting me vent. I needed to. :-)
Michelle
