Hi Michelle,
This teenager could well have not been taking very good care of her iguana,
but some iguanas do not stress as much as others and direct sunshine and opportunities to
bask for hours and hours in the sun is actually one of the best things (and what most captive iguanas
are deprived of) for an iguana, as long as the iguana was not overheating.
Many iguanas are by nature very easily stressed out, are nervous around people, etc.
But some really do enjoy interaction with people and a day out. You can usually tell this by their body language.
As long as an iguana was enjoying it, I see no reason to not allow the ig out to get some sunshine and fresh air with the owner.
I do this very often with both my igs and they just love it!
