Hi
In response to a couple of your questions. Yes the igaunas do indeed get stressed and stress is very debilitating to an iguana. However, you say it seemed tame. Was it tame or just tolerating the attention because of the high stress level. Iguanas deal with stress in many ways. One of which is to close their eyes and "zone out". Any change in my igs environment tends to stress her out. She's even not eaten for almost a week because I moved her food dish a whole six inches from the place it used to be. Strange but curious creatures.
As far as the heat and sunlight goes. High temperatures and direct sunlight are incredibly beneficial to iguanas. How warm was it? They bask in temps. from 85 to 95 degrees. My thought was that it may not have been warm enough rather than too hot. They also need high humidity levels to thrive.
While I have seen many iguanas in public settings at exhibitions and the like and most of which have dealt with their surroundings wonderfully, it is very stressful for the animal. I wouldn't recommend wandering around a flea market with my ig on my shoulder, its just not safe. I would die if anything happened to my baby.
Hope this helped.
