please help with my insecurities

I have been trying soooo hard to slowly win the trust of my 6 month old iguana but I have yet to succeed! I talk to him all the time (his cage is next to the computer) and I am trying to get him used to my presence by holding him (with a big struggle to catch him first) but nothing works. When I put my hand in the tank and move it close to him he scoots away and hides. I know I won't get instant affection and trust but please tell me that in time, he may want me to hold him! I am so frustrated and really just need personal reassurance! By the way, don't let my name fool you, I am a female. Could that be the problem? My husband thinks so!!! LOL!! :) Thanks!
