Are we talking about actually trying to get a mouthful of dirt/sand? Or are we talking just licking at it as in "testing" it?
The reason I ask is because our iguanas have always "tested" the dirt when out on walks in the backyard. They don't get a bite of it..just lick it and go on with their walk. They are 5 and 4 years old.
Oh and Sue I meant to write this to you earlier...I thought of it after the chat on Tuesday night. You mentioned that Cirsi has NEVER been gravid. I know that the way eggs are incubated can determine the sex of the reptile. If the temps fluctuate too much back & forth (as I understand this), the hatchlings can be born sterile. So maybe that is why Cirsi has never been gravid? I doubt that there is a test for sterility tho in a reptile. Ask your vet about the theory if you want, maybe you can let your guard down some on this annual worry.
