The link and the message are two seperate, but correlated, entities. The letter I recieved in my mail was a paraphrasing of a newsletter from a respected exotic animal orginization. The link was something I had personally stumbled upon earlier and added to the message. Obviously it shows a frowning of private sector ownership, and as such -- shows they would support such a ban. I posted it in hopes that peolple will send preliminary cordial letters expressing the opinion that there are people who can properly care for exotics. I recall seeing a message board when the laws in New York where just a proposal. Everyone thought it was a farce, because of the wrong taxonomy and misspelings. However, now iguanas and most other exotics are illegal in NYC.
I am curious as to what plight? Yes there are some people who are not prepared for primates and large carnivores. (just as some people aren't prepared for iguanas). However, there are people who are prepared to take on this massive responsibility. I am for requiring licensing and inspection of dangerous exotics -- but not outright bans. Is it fair to make iguanas illegal becuase so many people purchase them on whim in pet stores? (also do to prices and unavailbility -- tigers and monkeys are not available on the same level igs are)
Mammals are my special interest as well by the way. Besides a few snakes, my pets include a flying squirrel and a fennec fox. I have an evergrowing site dedicated to responsible exotic care (EnTER Fantasia Exotics)
PS: You may know me as 'cyber-Necromancer' at acmepet.
: I can't seem to find the message on a BAN that you're referring to. Can you can point to the specific website that you're referring to when mentioning "all exotics" I quickly scanned over the Message from the executive director and am finding different interpretation. Referring to 'illegal wildlife' not 'all exotics'.
: I didn't read anything that indicates a ban...but concern about care & plight of exotic pets such as "macques" and "tigers", and seeing it from AZA's position I agree with THEM! Maybe its a beginning to a ban on "all exotics" but in the interim I sure wouldn't want anyone with an illegally owned large wild cat in my neighborhood! The nightly fights we hear from feral cats around our house is bad enough!
