I read it. I share AZA's concern especially as it relates to regulating pet shops selling exotics.
I would like to see an all out BAN on the importation of ALL exotics PERIOD (with the exception to zoos). Ban the sale of ALL exotics at swap meets, boardwalks, as fair prizes etc. Make owners acountable! Require licenses and permits as part of ANY sale of existing exotics including private sector sales. Licenses and permits issued upon completion of x number of hours of education/certification relating to that particular species. Captive breeding only by license. Include a grandfather clause contingent upon on site inspections, current licenses and permits. The sale and keeping of exotic animals in the US has become a PROBLEM ....one which needs regulating! Not a BAN as in NYC but regulating nonetheless. Ferrets are illegal to own in California but that hasn't stopped people from buying them here, availability,or accessories from being sold at pet shops. I just don't know what to think about AZA's proposal....maybe continue to keep my head in the sand.
