There is a baby green iguana at Petco who has lost it's tail very very close to the base. It has been there long enough (I think 2 or 3 iguana orders/shipments have come in & gotten sold)and his/her tail is starting to grow back. I just feel so bad for the little guy b/c it seems like no one would ever want to get an "ugly" or "deformed" iguana (including my boyfriend whom I live with) but I would love to take him in, I've always wanted one. I hate seeing the animals at pet stores who are not wanted & stay there for 6 months or more :-(
Anyway, the thing is, I already have 7 lizards: 2 anoles, 3 leopard geckos &2 baby water dragons. If I got the iguana, I would have to house him with the baby water dragons (in a 50 gallon vivarium) as I don't have the money or the extra room for another huge tank right now. I have heard its been done before & I am thinking that since the tail is missing, that accounts for over half the iguanas length, he won't get as big (long) as he normally would? Or do their tails grow back as long as they were?
I am willing to give him the care as I would for any other lizard but I don't know too much about the species except that 4 out of 5 people end up giving their iguanas away when they get too big & I have heard many sad stories about that alone. I'm 95% sure I will not be one of those people and I plan to be moved away to a bigger place by this time next year when I graduate college. Any advice you all can give me on the situation & on iguanas would be great! Thank you! ~Danielle
