:Dear Danielle,
:
:I know just how you feel. For the last three months, I have been feeling bad about a skink at a local petstore. He has a tumor, and looks at me as if to say, Come on, I deserve better than this. The thing is, I barely have enough money for my iguana right now, and I just know I wouldn't feel comfortable feeding live prey. I am still trying to think of a solution, but I'm not adopting him. I agree with the last poster in that you have to think of the practicality of rescuing an animal from the petstore, in terms of you and the animals you already have. But also, think of this: you buying the iguana (or even bullying them into giving it to you) clears room for more iguanas to be shipped in. In a way, leaving it there lets customers see that the store doesn't really care for its animals.
:
:But on the other hand, I love to see iguanas go to nice homes with loving owners, which you sound like, so I wouldn't rule out adopting him or another iguana, eventually. If I could afford another ig, and I wanted one, the way you seem to, and I knew then what I know now, I would start at the beginning and read Iguanas for Dummies by Melissa Kaplan, go to the site www.anapsid.org, and look through the book Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual by James Hatfield III. Then I'd go to the Home Depot. :)
