As sad as it is, you answered your own question...you shouldn't get him. You don't have the room right now and you have plenty of other lizards you are responsible for first. This iguana needs it's own enclosure and a pretty big one at that. Some space could be cut off due to the tail, but it would still need to be high. And the tail could grow back and he would be full length once again.
If you do find the space for another cage, convince them to give him to you as you should not pay money for him since he needs vet care yada yada whatever you have to tell them. Never buy an animal you are rescuing if at all possible.
