Mr. D,
Thank you for replying (and so quickly too) :)
Ummmm....yea, I'm aware that I won't be able to keep these two housed together....much less keep even ONE in the 40 gal tank for long. My son thought he was doing a great deed when he bought my Xmas gift....he knows how much I love Iguana's and thought he would double the smile by getting two. lol....he's only 14 and I don't want to break his heart but I've been trying to explain to him about thier size and needs.....it's not an easy thing to do and I don't know WHAT I'm going to do in the future. I think we'll be okay for a little while....but I know that raising ONE Ig is a lot...much less TWO. :(
I'm really surprised that the pet store (they know us quite well) sold him two iguanas in a 40 gal tank and convinced him they'd do great. *sigh* I'm already working on trying to get an enclosure built....having two though is going to prove to be a lot more than he/we bargined for....no doubt.
Anyway, I tried wiping the *snalt* from the inside of the tank and some of it comes off but mostly it just smears....it's kinda icky to look at...I'll keep trying.
As for the heating and lights and stuff: Yea, I'm aware of their needs (or I hope I am)....and I'm shocked that the pet store didn't seem to be. I've spent more money getting them set up properly (I hope) than I would have expected. It needed to be done though because they sold my son a heat lamp that didn't attach to anything....told him to just set it on top of the tank....but it rocked back and forth and was SO dangerous I'm still upset about it. I've got it all worked out though and they seem to be doing well. My son spent over $300.00 initially for the tank, light, heat lamp, wood chips, food bowls, decorations and so forth.....he did a great job, but I've already spent that much buying what they *really* needed.....and made the store take back some of what they sold him that either was wrong or not sufficiant. *grrrrrr*
As for them eating....I know I'm making a big boo boo when I hand feed them, but it's hard to resist when we're holding them. I'm thinking that they're already liking the hand feeding thing too much and are purposely not eating from their bowl. lol...shame on me.
Okay well, this was longer than I intended....sorry. :) Thanks again for replying so quickly and for the web site links...great stuff!! Soooooo much to learn, huh? :)
I'm sure I'll be back with other questions or in the middle of an Iggy panic attack! *grin*
