Well my Ig Spike has been going through some changes lately. It really got bad when I started to put her in an outside enclosure during the day, can't anymore though too cold...
But anyways, Spike, who I have always thought of as my sweet little girl, has gotten more aggressive. Not wanting me to touch her at all. I have had to wrap a shirt or blanket around her just to take her outside and bring her in again at night. Even then I end up with many cuts on my arms and stomach. But that was all she did, scratch and sometimes try to roll. Bt never any tail whipping or biting. I just thought of it as her really wanting to get outside... She did start to head bob at me once I let her go in her outside enclosure too.
The day before yesterday it was reasonably warm, in the high 80s, so I figured she would like one more day out before it was too cold for her to be out at all. Boy did she fight me...when I opened her cage she jumped at me, tried to take off out the door-scaring the s--- out of my 4 year old son and my little brother- I had to pretty much pull a steve irwin to get her... She was totally spazzing.. I have never seen her like that.
I tried calming her down. When she finally stopped thrashing, still headbobbing like mad though, I let her go in her outside enclosure. I stood inside it for a while trying to not let her think she was in charge. But then when I brought her in that night she did it again. When I went to get her she jumped and tried to run away from me. I finally got her wrapped up again in the blanket and went to take her inside. She managed to wiggle out of the blanket and jumped out of my arms. Man I am so glad it was cold and I was faster than her or I might have lost her... But while I was trying to pick her up she started to try to bite me...she has NEVER tried to bite in the 5 1/2 years I have had her...I was shocked. I ended up having to wrap her completely in the blanket with one hand holding her head so she couldn't get to me....
This is hard. I don't know what to do. She can't really go outside anymore, it's getting real cold. But I still like to hold and pet her. As it is I can barely put in her food, cleaning is even harder, I have to wait 'til like midnight when it has cooled of so she is sleeping. I didn't think, even during her 'season' females would get like this... maybe she is a very feminine male? I have noticed what appear to be bulges behind her cloaca. She doesn't have big jowls that seem to be the trademark for males....
Any thoughts?
