How do you tell if a slow loris is happy? Seriously, though, there's a big difference between a good vet doing an operation and just any guy doing it for money and messing it up. Of course, even if it doesn't hurt the animal there are people very much against altering. It is possible to devenom snakes and many people are against that.
I did meet a dog once that had had its cainine teeth removed (apparently it bit). It did look very sad. Its tongue was hanging out funny.
