In Reply to: Abscess or infection. Definitely worthy of a vet visit. np posted by Mark on May 31, 2002 at 22:48:35:
What I thought looked like swollen tonscils turned out to be folds of fat. How funny.
I'd also noticed what looked like a small blister on the upper roof of her mouth. Showed the vet all of this, he took a culture and found a few gram negative rods(?). Sent me home w/injectible (oh joy! i hate that.) baytril for now and has sent culture to lab to find out more.
He said there wasn't allot, so hopefully it's not serious. Will keep you posted.

: : First of all, we've got an appointment w/her vet in the morning. I know it's got to be some kind of infection but am 'pretty' sure Ig's don't really have tonsils.
: : Romeo (I didn't name her), my 7ish pound adult female has always been the kind of Ig that sleeps w/her mouth open a little (and drools : : I didn't see anything else...not even tounge out sleeping, but decided to check her mouth one more time today. Well, I don't know whether I just opened it up more today or whether it's actually changed in appearance since I first checked. . . but today the back of her throat is definitely swollen, with a creamy whiteish color under the pink skin. I checked the other Ig's again and could see a distinct difference this time. : : So...has anybody ever gone through this before. . .or heard about anything that looks like this? Would be glad to hear anything you'd like to share.
