I saw where the article said to tell your vet Ig’s carry the neg bac but, happened to surf to the Salmonella link first (having seen Salmonella listed, on another site, as gram negative). I wonder if the article to which you refer stated that generally, because such a high percentage of pet store Ig’s carry the Salmonella bacteria. . . or whether it was another type of negative bacterial to which the article referred. Hmmm?
In any case . . . I’m glad you brought this up because now I’m doing a little more research and will be better able to discuss the lab results when they come back.
I don’t know allot about mouth rot. I’ve only seen web pic’s of it . . . and those made it look like something where I’d be seeing more external signs. I’m going to revisit that subject and research deeper than in the past.
Maybe he gave me the impression it would be “easy” because, whatever it is (or isn’t) she’s held her weight solid since her last visit (before laying her January clutch). . . .which, when I think about it, means she’s regained all the weight she lost in eggs. She hasn’t lost any of her appetite and is drinking normally. Other than that one time when I caught her sleeping w/her tongue hanging out, everything’s normal. BTW. . .did that also contribute to your “mouth rot” thought. . . or was it just the way I described the inside of her mouth?
Anyway. . .going to do some more research now.
Thanks,
Rebecca
: See I just posted re the ig bite and quoted an article saying to be sure and tell dr they carry gram NEGATIVE. Check out website below.
: Now I'm wondering if it should be that they CAN carry negative rather than that they DO???? Anyone know for sure?
: I'll tell you what scares me the most about what your vet is seeing....the first thing that came to mind is "mouth rot" and as most of you all know here at the ig forum a friend here recently lost her iZ to this. Maybe I'm reading too much in to what you saw in the throat and to what your vet scraped off for lab work. But I'd like to be so bold as to suggest to you that you ask your vet if it is a possibility. And, yes, if it is that it can be treated but that stuff is agressive and hard to cure.
: Hope whatever it is turns out to be "easy" if there is such a thing with these green ones!
