You are missing the point that taking that baby iguana from a pet store made MORE ROOM FOR TOHER IGUANAS. He might be the best owner ever, but the iguana that took its place has a very likely chance of being mistreated and then DUMPED on a rescuer. Its not the iguana one buys from the pet store, ITS THE ONE THAT REPLACES IT.
So uh, of course it wouldn't be the same if he got it off the street. How you even compare that I do not know. Its the iguana that REPLACES the one taken. If pet stores can't get rid of them ever, they WILL STOP TRYING LIKE MANY ARE.
I also NEVER said he was irresponsible. I said ADULTS in general who are irresponsible and buy pets from pet stores which is furthering a problem.
Given to him for free or not, if pet stores can't get rid of any more iguanas it can do WONDERS to make them STOP paying for them! Why can't people understand that. You think if I have a hot dog stand, I buy a pack of hotdogs for 10.00 dollars, yet I can't get rid of them for even 5.00 dollars and I have to resort to trying to give them away for free, and THEN PEOPLE STILL WON'T EAT MY HOTDOGS, You think I am going to buy more hotdogs? Its simple business with pet stores. Simple. People stop supporting their sale of iguanas, and they stop importing them or wholesale buying them because NO ONE WILL TAKE THEM. Its a financial LOSS.
You think that guy was giving him an iguana out of the kindness of his heart? Of course not. The iguana was either getting past "newborn" stage and he wanted room for a smaller cuter one, or the iguana was ill, or the guy knew that giving this iguana to this person wuold mean more sales. Its all about the dollar.
This person was told many times to adopt, if you wanted a baby, or anyone else who wants a baby, THEN ADOPT A BABY.
In my household right now we have a "BABY IGUANA". And guess what? We adopted it. And it wasn't the only baby iguana either. I have nothing against wanting a baby, once again you missed my point. What I am against is people using that for an excuse. "Oh but a baby can be trained"
"but I want one that loves me from the start" "oh a baby is much smaller and easier to handle" etc. Those are NOT factual statments, and are totally excuses for getting an iguana out of CONVIENCE not out of a true caring for the species. It takes about 24 hours to locate an iguana near you, don't have internet? Then go to the library, iguana for adoption but not near you? Contact the rescuer and in almost all cases it can be transported to you somehow, by car if they don't ship. Remember rescuers WANT iguanas adopted, and if a loving home means a three hours drive I can promise you a rescuer will drive it or find another person who will.
I really don't understand people anymore. You either don't want iguanas mistreated or you do. Its not a half half situation. Pet stores are GARBAGE and unless they are treated that was 100% of the time, then I guess they won't stop selling 100% of the iguanas they do.
I stand by what I said.
