If he is spazzing when you take him out, try putting a towel or a cloth over his head (but not tightly). Iguanas (and birds alike) calm down when they can't see, and they will almost instantly stop and stand perfectly still if you do so. If he gets away from your grasp, you might not want to go chase him until you wait a few minutes. If you are constantly chasing the poor iggy, he's going to get very upset, and it can be bad for their health.
It's actually be proven that crocodile's can have heart attacks and die when they get stressed out. Whether or not the same is true with iguanas, you should take it easy and make sure he doesn't get too scared.
