Well there is no easy answer for this... eventually he will calm down. I think aquariums are just bad for this type of behavior but you have to take him out so you can only keep trying to do is slowly so he won't freak out. As he grows you can build a cage that opens from the front so you come at him from the same level-- this should not only work better but he will probably be more calm by then anyway. Just make sure he doesn't get an infection on his mouth from all the injuries. At night you can rub triple antibiotic on there (try not to do it too close where he will get it in his mouth) so he sleeps with it on there-- will prevent infection.
