Well, we really got into it this time. As many of you know, Mary and I live in an old farmhouse in KY. We have a permanent resident population of chimney swifts (Chaetura pelagica) that live in the old brick chimneys with us. They winter in Peru, and arrive every spring in April to breed and raise young in our chimneys. In October, they leave to head back to South America. We had a severe rainstorm on July 3, and a nest with three babies fell down the chimney. This is not an unusual occurance, and we sometimes get adults loose in the house because they lost thier grip and fall. Too much rain loosens the glue (saliva) that binds the nest to the chimney wall, and down they come. We've tried to rehab the babies before, but without success. This time, though, we did some internet research, and have had outstanding success! 2 feeder crickets each every hour for 13 hours a day does the trick. This comes to 6 dozen crickets a day at .10 apiece, or about $7.20 a day. Two weeks is enough! They're flying about in Bug's old crate, and are persuing insects on thier own. Monday's release day, so hope for the best along with us.

Just an interesting story I wanted to share, although not ig related. (They are living in Bug's old enclosure, though) They shared the bathroom with Bug for the first week, and he hated them! Talk about stink-eye! He could really give it to those birds. Enough of this....

Best regards,

John
