*immediately* upon taking him out, put him in either the tub or a "litter box" (with 1/2 inch of water or lined with newspaper) ... if he's going pretty much the second you get him out, i'd put a litter box right next to his enclosure ~ otherwise, i'd go with the tub ...
he's pretty much gonna potty-train himself with a little bit o' help + encouragement from you ...

not sure if he's trying to deter you or if he just has to REALLY GO and doesn't wanna go in his enclosure + so waits as long as he can ... either way, i betcha he'll be trained soon ... *grin*

and you've prob'ly heard this already ~ but ~ be very very careful with him + the cats!!!!
