I have two Iguana's right now and hopefully(crossed fingers) I will be bringing home my third tomorow! The one that goes to the bathroom on me is just a baby(and also a Rhino Iggy)His name is "Rocko" Than I have Miya(green iguana)who is 3 feet long and always uses his cat box filled with water(he makes sure i clean it as soon as he uses it otherwise he makes a huge mess in his cage!LOL) Miya can be a little on the mean side and I have to really watch my fingers around him. I am still trying to tame his wild side. As for my new Iggy(somebody elses throw away) I just have to make the finishing touches on his new pad tonight and should be able to pick him up tomorow!!yeah!! He looked to be about 5 feet long and his name is Floyd. He seemed relatively friendly when i held him last week. Mostly he just did not want to go back into the tank they are keeping him in~ It looks like his toes will need some healing too. As they were useing reptile bark as a substrate and when they have no way to get off the stuff it can really damage there feet. So i can hardly wait to put him in his HUGE enclosure and watch him climb around!~ My husband thinks I am a little nuts for loving iguana's so much when they are so much work. Plus the fact that Miya is so mean. But I figure Miya has every right to be mean~ He was treated badly by people so why should he like them? When I found him he had already had a few other homes and was being kept in a 20 gallon tank on bark substrate.(who knows what else he had to go through before he found me) His nose was rubbed raw from trying to get out and his toes were all deformed from not being able to climb! I made him a HUGE house with a big pool of water and give him all the right food and his toes and nose have finally healed. SO now when i open his cage door he fights for his territory!LOL~ He gapes at me and lets me know with all the right bobs that this is his place and he is not leaving it without a fight!hehehe~ He does ask to come out sometimes and wanders about the house before deciding to go back in his cage, and sometimes i take him outside and let him soak up some rays but only when he is in a good mood~ Otherwise its a huge fight!~ He can really roll and act up!! I am not sure how Floyd is going to be but wether he is mean or nice i will still love him just the same. I could go on forever about my babys!LOL~
: (sorry ~ i have a *terrible* time remembering just how old/big all the igs are! *grin*)
: if he's still smallish, just some kind of tray lined with a few paper towels might work ... doesn't have to be anything fancy, just so you use the same thing everytime and it's easy to clean!
: that's pretty much how iZ got tub trained ~ he wouldn't go in his enclosure and i'd put him in the tub 1st thing when he got out and *PRAISE* him when he'd go and then he got to roam around + play, etc ...
: + a side note ...
: as soon as he'd raise his tail and start going, i'd praise him but also repeat "go bathroom" as a kind of chant ... "gooooooood dragon go bathroom! go bathroom dragon ... "
: and he learned what "go bathroom" means! very helpful when we moved and the tub looked VERY different and also very helpful on nites when he doesn't WANT to ~ i tell him "go bathroom 1st dragon" and he's learned he can stay in the tub as long or short as he wants, he's just gotta poop before he can get out ...
: good luck!!!
