My iguana won't eat

I have had my first iguana for 3 days now and he has not eaten yet. Is this normal? How often do iguanas eat? I am worried that he will get away while I am holding him. I don't want him to get loose in my house. My mom and sister would not like that very much. Would an iguana harness (leash) be a good idea? Thank you so much.
