Our female green iguana came to us with a tail tip (approx. 1") that was dehydrated looking which is what yours sounds like, too. You might try misting it heavily daily to see if you can bring it back to health AND when you get that vet visit in your schedule of things to do ask him/her what they think about it. Vita Spray is supposed to be good for this (green bottle you can get at most pet stores). Ours did just fine for four years altho it never improved....it didn't get any worse either. However, this summer she lost that part of her tail. Just found it in her enclosure one morning. There were extenuating circumstances though that I think lead to its falling off. She'd had to have an operation about a month prior and was stressing easily at the time. I have just continued to mist the "new" tip daily and have hopes that it will re-generate.

Just to be cautious, I'd look and make sure that something isn't wrapped around it cutting off circulation and causing the tip to actually die. Look for a hair strand that sort of thing or a piece of shed that hasn't made it off. But in all likelihood it is a hydration problem.

Good luck with the new babies in the family!
